Taylor Russell McKenzie was conceived in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 18th on the 18th of July 1994. She was also raised in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. [1][2(two) Russell was born to an African-American father and a white mother, is biracial, and grew up with her mother's family. She said that the color of her skin was the primary reason why she was at odds with her peers as when she was a young child. They struggled financially, and were constantly moving, relocating their homes 16 times to follow her father's work. Russell shared that despite all the difficulties they faced, there was always an possibility to reinvent and make something completely new. Russell's parents struggled financially and she was always in motion. At eighteen, she took her first acting class, and eventually found her niche. She used her savings from work to purchase a vehicle and would then drive to Los Angeles, to audition. Once her savings ran out she would return to work until she had enough income to audition again. This routine was followed for four more years until she was given her first TV part.
