She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process that did not make the subject on the canvas as an unflat image. Rather the subject is transformed into a representation of the subject in which the painting transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of living or perishable items like people or fruits. Her ephemeral painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's art is a photograph. Photographs and painting are coordinated to create an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil. Certain places the third dimensions can be seen, for example, close to the eyes or in the hair. At times, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional space around them, allowing them to interact within the self-created universe. The lines between performance, installation, photography and painting can be dissolved.
